Frozen Pipes

These are suggestions to reduce or eliminate water damage from frozen pipes:

  1. Shut-off source of incoming water i.e. meters, well-pumps
  2. Open all sink faucets
  3. Drain hot water heaters and boilers
  4. In hydronic heat systems bleed registers and open line vents
  5. During repairs it may be more cost effective to install new piping rather than destroy floors, walls, and ceilings to gain access to old lines.
  6. Toilets and other fixtures may be saved by pouring non-toxic propylene glycol antifreeze down drains and traps. (NOTE: Do not use car antifreeze.)
